    Job Description

    DLZ Corporation currently has a Water Engineer - Data Analyst opportunity in Program office in Detroit, MI. We are looking for a highly talented and motivated individual who will retrieve and analyze data from various sources to support condition assessment and capital improvement planning activities for a major water distribution and wastewater conveyance / treatment client.
     
    Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Acquire data from primary or secondary data sources and maintain databases using Innovyze data management software.
    • Collect and configure large datasets to meet project specifications.
    • Develop, implement and/or optimize data collection and analytical processes to meet clients’ requirements.
    • Develop and utilize data validation tools in Excel, Access and SQL to identify data quality issues.
    • Identify trends or patterns in complex datasets and generate tables, charts, and or graphical output using visualization tools such as Tableau.
    • Filter and clean data by reviewing computer reports and performance indicators to locate and correct problems.
    • Define process improvement requirements.
    • Work collaboratively with other engineering, GIS Analysts, Field Inspectors, and IT/IS team.
    • Document work processes, compose training documents and conduct training sessions.
    • Implement, configure and test commercial-of-the-shelf data management related software to meet project specifications.
    • Provide technical support to field inspection teams.
    • Perform all work in a safe and responsible manner, in accordance with the Health and Safety Plan.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

     Job Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering or Information Technology Information Systems/Management, Mathematics, Statistics.

    • 2 or more years of experience in the environmental/engineering field with emphasis on environmental data management or an advanced degree

    • Knowledge of the latest principles, practices, and techniques of GIS. Ability to produce professional, high quality, GIS-based cartographic products with the ESRI Software Suite and relational databases

    • Demonstrated proficiency in writing and executing simple to complex SQL queries

    • Demonstrated proficiency in Excel for manipulating and displaying data, including the use of pivot tables and charts

    • Experience with Innovyze data management and modeling software including Innovyze InfoNet, and InfoWorks

    • Effective organization and project management skills to meet multiple deadlines and attain results

    • Proven attention to detail and problem-solving skills

    • High initiative, superior interpersonal skills, and ability to work with minimal supervision and to manage multiple tasks simultaneously

    • Excellent verbal and written communications skills

    • Microsoft Office experience is required

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience with ESRI based applications such as Azteca Cityworks
    • Relevant experience with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation
    • Technical expertise in designing, implementing, and documenting data models
    • Experience with data analysis, data mining and segmentation techniques
    • Knowledge and familiarity with data visualization packages (Power BI, Tableau, etc.)
    • Familiarity with Python, JavaScript, Ruby programming and report generation such as Crystal Reports is desirable
    • Experience in the planning, design and implementation of mobile applications for field data collection a plus
