Job Description

DLZ Michigan, Inc. is seeking candidates for an Intern position in our Lansing, Michigan office.

 

Job Duties:

  • Ecological and wetland investigations
  • Field and desktop data collection
  • Report writing
  • Creation of exhibits and graphics using GIS and/or CAD programs
  • Various field and office tasks related to planning, civil engineering, and landscape architecture
  • Perform all work in a safe and responsible manner, in accordance with the Health and Safety Plan.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 Qualifications & Skills:

  • Enrolled in a degree program for biology, environmental sciences, planning, geography, landscape architecture, or another relevant natural science major
  • Ability to identify birds (by sight and sound), amphibians, reptiles, and mammals
  • Ability to identify a wide variety of plants including endemic, invasive, and rare plants
  • Willingness to work flexible hours to maximize field data collection efforts
  • Ability to quickly learn new tasks and procedures/critical thinking
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work and thrive in a team environment
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to self-motivate and work productively with limited supervision
  • Working knowledge of GPS field data collectors
  • Working knowledge of software programs including Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and ArcGIS
  • Ability to visit and safely traverse construction and project sites and complying with all applicable safety codes and requirements.

This will be a part-time position starting in the spring of 2018.  Full-time hours may be available during the summer of 2018.  It is possible that the position could be extended on a flexible part-time basis during the 2018/2019 academic year.
