Job Description

DLZ currently has an opening for a Traffic Engineer in our Indianapolis, IN office.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform Traffic Engineering and design assignments of a varied nature.
  • Assigned segments of design projects where Traffic Engineering work is to be done; meet cost and time schedules and production of quality results are primary objectives.
  • Conduct and assist with signal designs and develop drawings for traffic signals, signing and pavement markings for transportation projects. 
  • Conduct Roadway Lighting Design and voltage drop calculations
  • Prepare reports and conduct studies of engineering methods, codes, processes and materials.
  • Conduct or supervise field activities such as traffic counts, traffic observations, origin destination studies.
  • Develop safety studies, intersection/interchange modification studies, signal timing studies, traffic modeling, signing and marking plans and MOT plans.
  • Perform traffic impact studies for new developments.
  • Participate/Prepare construction cost estimates, proposals, and bid evaluations.
  • Prepare client progress reports.
  • Perform all work in a safe and responsible manner, in accordance with the Health and Safety Plan.
    Perform other duties as assigned.

 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Electrical Engineering
  • 12 or more years’ experience in Traffic Engineering and Lighting
  • Professional Engineering (PE) License in Indiana required or ability to obtain with 6 months.
  • AutoCAD and/or MicroStation experience preferred.
  • Experience in use of traffic engineering software such as HCS, Synchro, Vissim, and RODEL.
  • Experience in Roadway Lighting design.
  • Experience in development or implementation of traffic signal timing coordination/time-space diagram preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written skills
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to visit and safely traverse construction and project sites and complying with all applicable safety codes and requirements.
