Job Description

DLZ has a Industrial Project Project Surveyor – Mechanical Speciality opportunity in our Burns Harbor, IN office.



  • Responsible to assist on all aspects of Industrial, Construction and Professional Survey Groups performing surveying/precision alignment/engineering projects, as appropriate
  • Delivering a quality product to Clients based upon direction from Industrial Company management


  • Perform calculations/computations to assist/complete surveying/precision alignment/engineering projects
  • Assist the Industrial Project Managers in coordinating and organizing field data obtained from field crews
  • Ability to efficiently download and process and upload electronic field data
  • Coordinate with field crew as required
  • Learn to use/maintain surveying/precision alignment equipment
  • Assist in the field, performing data collection and giving alignment direction/assistance as appropriate
  • Prepare triangulated irregular network (TIN) surface models from field data
  • Assist in maintaining Client contact to assure Client objectives are accomplished
  • Perform other field work as assigned
  • Perform other duties as assigned


  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology,  Metrology, or other related degree
  • FE/EIT certification preferred
  • Prefer experience in the following:
    • Surveying/precision alignment
    • AutoCAD/Civil 3D
    • Leica Cyclone software (3D point cloud processing)
    • Faro CAM10 software (precision alignment software)
    • High Definition Laser Scanner and/or Laser Tracker equipment experience
  • Must have the ability to travel
  • Valid Driver’s License and meeting all required client background checks
