    Job Description

    DLZ Corporation currently has an opening for a Civil Engineer Project Manager - Water Department in our Chicago, Illinois office.
    The ideal candidate will manage DLZ’s relationships with local water/wastewater clients.  They will work with local staff to develop new business, manage existing projects, and perform engineering design work.  Prior experience with local water/wastewater agencies is strongly preferred, specifically with the City of Chicago, Metropolitan Water Reclamation District, or suburban systems.

    • Manage large and complex multi-discipline water department engineering projects from planning and procurement through start-up and construction.
    • Assist water department business development efforts.
    • Review proposed contracts to determine significant parameters, time schedules and mileposts and define the major task areas.
    • Resolve problems and coordinate the final turnover of the project to the client, as the principal contact with the client throughout the project.
    • Direct the planning and development of the project scope, procedures, and budget.
    • Coordinate client contact and maintain working relationships at all levels.
    • Ensure contractual commitments are met and the work is being performed according to the client's instructions.
    • Control and/or review all project forecasts, schedules, cost estimates and reports.  Responsible for quality control over the project.
    • Monitor fees and budgets; report problems to the appropriate Department and Division Managers.
    • Review and address health & safety concerns on projects assigned. 
    • Work with the accounting department to keep billings and receipts current and accurate.
    • Be actively involved in civic and professional activities, societies and organizations.       
    • Perform all work in a safe and responsible manner, in accordance with the Health and Safety Plan.
    • Possess aptitude to act as a positive representative of the company and its core values.


    • A Bachelor’s Degree in relevant Engineering field, Master's Degree preferred
    • Illinois Professional Engineer (PE) Registration
    • 10 or more years of Water Consulting experience with specific experience in business and/or project management
    • Experience as a project or relationship manager for water/sewer projects at the City of Chicago Water Department and/or Metropolitan Water Reclamation District
    • Stormwater / Green Infrastructure Engineering experience highly desired
    • Excellent communication skills (includes presenting and writing)
